The Dubuque Racing Association (DRA) has awarded Camp Albrecht Acres $18,000 towards the purchase of a new lawn tractor. Camp Albrecht Acres appreciates the continued support from DRA which funds ongoing improvements at camp.
“The continued support from the community is what make our camp a special place” said Eric Veltstra, executive director,” The financial support from DRA has supported many projects in the past and allows us to provide a fun, safe and challenging environment for our campers”.

Dear Campers, Caregivers, Supporters and Friends,

Thank you all for your continued support throughout this difficult past year. As you know, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of our camp last summer. As we approach the coming summer months, we are again faced with the difficult decision of whether to hold camp. After a thorough evaluation of stakeholder input from campers, caregivers, health care professionals, staff and partner agencies, the board of directors of Camp Albrecht Acres has decided to cancel its summer camp season again this year. This includes all residential and day camps as well as Camp Be-A-Friend. We are disappointed that circumstances have not improved to the point where a return to camp is possible. While we are encouraged by the progress of vaccinations, we have determined that the health and safety of our vulnerable camp population cannot be assured given the current state of the pandemic and the challenges that it poses to our ability to safely and responsibly staff and operate our camp.

On behalf of the entire Camp Albrecht Acres team, we understand that this news may be disappointing, and we apologize for the further disruption this represents for you and your family or organization. We fully expect to be able to offer our full slate of summer programming in 2022 and will explore other options for the remainder of the year, if possible.

All campers who have currently have a credit from prepaid 2020 camp fees may request a refund or direct their payment be held for 2022. Please continue to check our website and future emails for details.

Please continue to stay tuned to your email for direct communications from Camp Albrecht Acres, check our social media or website as we move toward a new ‘normal’ together. Stay safe and healthy and we look forward to seeing you all next year at camp!

Best,

The Staff and Board of Directors

Camp Albrecht Acres recently purchased a new utility tractor just in time for the snow! We may not be thrilled with how early the snow made its appearance this year, but we are very thankful for our generous donors who made it possible for us to purchase this tractor. It has definitely come in handy! We would just like to say a big "Thank You" to the Dubuque Racing Association, the Wahlert Foundation, the Schoen Family Charitable Trust, Roger Simon, the James & Melita McDonough Foundation, and the Optimist Club of Dubuque for their generous donations that made this tractor possible.

We all know that this year has not gone as planned and the same goes for camp. What saddens us most, was not having our grounds filled with happy campers and counselors. Even though canceling camp was one of the hardest choices we have ever had to make, we focused on the positives of having a closed down camp for the summer. We used this time to work on projects and organize rooms that otherwise would not have had the chance to be completed. As of now we will be opening our registration for Camp 2021 at the end of January or early February.  We are currently working on determining what camp next summer will look like. We know there are a lot of questions that still need to be answered and we are working on creating a plan. Our main goal is to keep our Campers and Staff safe. Emails and announcement will be made once we have decided on our course of action and open our application.

We wanted to take a moment to thank Skip Breitbach Feeds for the generous donation of grass seed and fertilizer for our lawn. If you have ever visited Camp, you know just how much grass we have! We are so incredibly thankful for this donation and Skip's continued support over the years.

Please take the time to read our update from 3/19/2020 on how the current pandemic is affecting camp and the necessary measures that we are taking during this time.
